Draden van Ons Nederlandse Slavernijverleden (2026)

Over the past year I’ve been involved in the national research project Draden van Ons Nederlandse Slavernijverleden (Threads of Our Dutch History of Slavery). This large scale tapestry project has facilitated archival research of my own province’s ties to the VOC, the WIC and Dutch colonial atrocities. This has been a previously unexplored avenue for research as the region of Limburg was long presumed to fall outside of the reaches of the Republic of the Netherlands. For the project I have created the design for a 35 meter long tapestry with the aim of communicating these findings to a larger public.

Through a series of workshops, people are invited to help with the creation of the tapestry at several different locations in Limburg. For more information please see DvONS.nl
